BIOGRAPHY
Meret Madörin was born in 1987 in Northern Germany and grew up in Switzerland. Early on it was clear to her, that both the photographic image and the cinematic moving image, and thus the work behind the camera, would be the common thread of her professional path. She is been working in the film industry since 2009 and studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (Bachelor of Arts in Film, CH) until 2013. After Meret Madörin worked as an assistant camera for numerous national and international feature films, TV movies and series, she completed a Master‘s degree in Cinematography at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF (D).
With the award-winning short film «Trading Happiness» directed by Đức Ngô Ngọc, she was nominated for the Michael Ballhaus Prize at the First Steps Award in 2020. The multi-award-winning feature documentary «Three Women» by Maksym Melnyk celebrated its world premiere at Dok Leipzig in 2022, followed by numerous film festivals and awards worldwide. In 2023, Meret Madörin worked with director Đức Ngô Ngọc on their fourth joint project, the six-part series «Made in Germany», which focuses on the young post-migrant generation and deals with the topic of origin in a completely different way.
With the multi-award-winning documentary «Exile never ends» by Bahar Bektaş, Meret Madörin won the Grimme Prize 2025 for best cinematography. In silent, carefully composed images and with a big sensitivity the documentary tells the story of the effects of migration and the long-term consequences of uprooting. The feature film «Traces of what remains» directed by Lisa Blatter and produced by Lomotion AG (CH) will have its cinema release in 2025.
Creating a new world through filmmaking is Meret Madörins passion. In her fictional and documentary work, she always strives to develop or portray a cinematic world that touches, encourages, entertains and creates connections between cultures, themes and people. Meret Madörin is based in Berlin and Zurich and enjoys working worldwide. Meret Madörin is represented by agent Patricia Barona from Talent Republic Agency, vice president of the SCS (Swiss Cinematographers Society) and member of the Women Cinematographers Network.
